Veteran of the Depths, Creature — merfolk soldier, designed by Daren Bader first released in Oct, 2007 in the set Lorwyn and was printed exactly in 2 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 2.34.
This card would be beneficial in a white-based aggro or midrange deck that focuses on tapping creatures for various effects. While Veteran of the Depths has potential in such a deck, there are more efficient options like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben or Student of Warfare that offer better value and impact on the board. However, if the deck requires a specific merfolk synergy or needs additional creatures for the tribe, Veteran of the Depths could see play as a solid inclusion.

This is a triggered ability, not an activated ability. It doesn’t allow you to tap the creature whenever you want; rather, you need some other way of tapping it, such as by attacking with the creature.
