Standard: 8 Decks with Bloomburrow for Best of One

The new Standard season is about to begin, and the launch of Bloomburrow brings one of the most impactful rotations the format has ever seen, where Wedding Announcement, Raffine, Scheming Seer, The Wandering Emperor and many other cards say goodbye and make room for potential new staples.

Which decks can appear in this new Metagame? And which of them can succeed in Magic Arena's variety of games and modalities? In this article, we present eight post-rotation lists with Bloomburrow cards for players to try in Best of One in the first week of the new Standard!

Rakdos Lizards

Lizards are one of the creature types with the most synergies in Bloomburrow, and it's not surprising that combining several of them is enough to create a decklist.

Most of its creatures care about the opponent taking some damage, so starting with a core of cards whe can use against the opponent creates the first of many openings for the archetype to “go off” with Gev, Scaled Scorch and Flamecache Gecko, complemented by Iridescent Vinelasher and Hired Claw to guarantee damage even in the face of blockers.

Pyrotechnic Performer has a very decent body and its Disguise ability deals more damage as the game goes on, where we also have Darkstar Augur and Valley Rotcaller, which despite their creature types, interact with each other to give more reach and card advantage.

Orzhov Bats

Orzhov Bats is a Lifegain deck - which tends to gain space in the more aggressive Best of One Metagame - with a Bats subtheme due to the interaction between Zoraline, Cosmos Caller with Amalia Benavides Aguirre and Essence Channeler, triggering their abilities multiple times while the new legend works as a recursion in longer games.

Deep-Cavern Bat is a welcome addition to this strategy, complemented by some removals, Case of the Uneaten Feast for more life gain, as well as Darkstar Augur for card advantage in a list that we can easily mitigate its drawback.

I have doubts if Sheoldred, the Apocalypse should have this slot or if it belongs to Beza, the Bounding Spring, but the Phyrexian praetor already has proven results and also allows more triggers from Amalia and Essence Channeler , so it was included in the four-drop slot.

Selesnya Critters

Green has gained some quality one-drops on Bloomburrow with Mistbreath Elder, Valley Mightcaller and Pawpatch Recruit, and their interaction with Innkeeper's Talent could be enough to establish a new green Aggro in Best of One.

Due to the demand for returning creatures to the hand with Mistbreath Elder and the high amount of creatures in the deck, the addition of white to have powerful ETBs, such as Knight-Errant of Eos and Resolute Reinforcements enhances its use and the interactions of this list, which also include Quirion Beastcaller and Burrowguard Mentor as creatures that get out of control quickly.

There are many proposals we can look for with this archetype, and the version above is an outline of the potential that Aggro can have in the Best of One and, perhaps, even in the Best of Three, where it had some notorious losses with the rotation.

Azorius Tempo

Azorius Tempo has also received some upgrades. In this list, we highlight Plumecreed Escort, which offers one of the best Tempo plays that Standard will have while offering a decent clock, being complemented by Salvation Swan as the Restoration Angel we have at home.

The Novice Inspector package with Warden of the Inner Sky and Spyglass Siren is the core of this list and allows taking advantage of our interaction, with Aven Interrupter being one of the ways to delay the opponent's plans along with No More Lies and Get Lost

Azorius Control

The Control version lost many cards with the rotation and will need to adapt to the new Metagame with new pieces. Bloomburrow brought several options to the list, where Beza, the Bounding Spring stands out for its versatility and potential to be one of the deck's winconditions.

Thundertrap Trainer is another possible staple. In addition to being an early game blocker, it allows filtering the top in search of the ideal answer, while being the closest we have to Memory Deluge in the late game.

In the interaction package, Starfall Invocation allows us to destroy all creatures and return one of our threats to the battlefield, so it deserves a one-of, while Spellgyre can grow on the list if its flexibility is as good as Three Steps Ahead.

Temur Stormsplitter

Getting on the more experimental side, Stormsplitter is an excellent complement to “Poison Storm” with Venerated Rotpriest and Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief. We need five spells for lethal damage with the new creature, and our package of cheap cantrips and protection can help keep it in play while we pressure the opponent.

Sazacap's Brew, the other new addition to the set, digs deeper while its ability can target creatures, interacting with Venerated Rotpriest and adding to the consistency of the list, which has the challenge of winning games before the opponent manages to outrace us.

Of all the archetypes presented, this is the one that probably requires the most attention in changes, perhaps to the point where Stormsplitter doesn't even need such a dedicated shell to work as wincondition on its own.

Mono Red Prowess

Looking now at the classic archetypes from last season with promise to have good results in the new Standard, Mono Red Prowess gained two important new pieces with Bloomburrow: Emberheart Challenger, which in addition to interacting with the list also offers more reach every turn and Blooming Blast as the likely best red removal in the format.

The rest of the list is the same as run in the current season, with Monastery Swiftspear for pressure in the early turns, Slickshot Show-Off to deal huge chunks of damage, and Fugitive Codebreaker for extra reach, plus a burn package with Shock and Lightning Strike and one-mana pumps with Monstrous Rage, Felonious Rage and Demonic Ruckus for evasion.

Boros Convoke

Voldaren Epicure's rotation has an effect on Boros Convoke's speed and should hurt it in the medium term in both Best of One and Best of Three, but the deck is not only far from disappearing, but most of what remains in the format benefits its permanence.

The obvious replacements for Epicure are Yotian Frontliner and Charming Scoundrel, which we opted for in this list for their versatility in exchange for the speed of casting Gleeful Demolition for a Knight-Errant of Eos as early as the second turn (which is still possible with Novice Inspector).

There are no new features that, at first glance, deserve a lot of space in Boros Convoke in Bloomburrow, with only a few cards worthy of testing in the archetype, such as Fountainport, a Mirrex on steroids that interacts with our tokens and Warren Warleader for longer games where it might take over the game.
