A deck that focuses on aggressive strategies and winning through combat damage would benefit from including Avatar of Slaughter, as it significantly boosts the offensive capabilities of all creatures on the battlefield. However, it may not be the most optimal choice due to its high mana cost and the risk of forcing your own creatures into unfavorable combat situations. Other cards like Aurelia, the Warleader or Gisela, Blade of Goldnight may be better options for achieving similar effects more efficiently and with less downside, making Avatar of Slaughter less likely to see play in competitive decks.

If, during a player’s declare attackers step, a creature is tapped, is affected by a spell or ability that says it can’t attack, or hasn’t been under that player’s control continuously since the turn began (and doesn’t have haste), then it doesn’t attack. If there’s a cost associated with having a creature attack, the player isn’t forced to pay that cost, so it doesn’t have to attack in that case either.
