Wizards of the Coast has shared an update on the Pauper format in MTG Arena, revealing that the format has been receiving more attention recently. The company updated the Historic Pauper banned list based on gameplay data and community feedback, and has begun scheduling weeklong Constructed events with substantial prizes.

The information comes from the State of the Formats 2026 article, published this Friday (11) by Dave Finseth. According to the article, Pauper has always had a place in MTG Arena, regularly appearing in Midweek Magic events. However, the company acknowledges that it is still far from reaching parity with tabletop Pauper.

Even so, the response to Pauper events on Arena has been positive, prompting Wizards to expand the format’s presence. The strategy for next year involves limited-time events rather than a permanent queue, since the format’s audience is not yet large enough to support a fixed queue.

The company said it will continue monitoring Pauper’s performance on Arena, and that the weekly prize events are an example of what players can expect. There is no timeline for when, or if, the format will receive a permanent queue.
