IntroductionUnless you live in a cave completely cut off from Asian culture, you have probably come across Hatsune Miku in some way.Known as Crypton Future Media's first VOCALOID, this cute blue-haired girl has won over fans everywhere her twin-tails go, and MTG is no exception. When WotC released the Hatsune Miku Secret Lair precon, players were introduced to new versions of familiar cards, as well as a precon that is sure to delight any Trostani, Selesnya's Voice fan.In this article, we will show you how you can upgrade this list but still play its exclusive cards. Let's get started!Commander: Miku, Song of the PeopleMiku, Song of the People is a Trostani, Selesnya's Voice reprint, one of the most popular Selesnya creatures in Commander. You may cast the first stone if you have never run into one of these at an FNM!Other cards that got exclusive versions in this deck are:The real challenge is upgrading this list without removing any of these exclusive versions. Let's go!BuffsCreating tokens and gaining life is nice, but creating big tokens that trample over opponents and end the game is even better!Cards We AddedWe decided to add:Akroma's Will needs little introduction. It is an extremely popular Commander finisher that can also act as protection in emergencies. The same goes for Craterhoof Behemoth, a Beast that instantly makes you happy when you cast it.For just 2 mana, Belladonna Took gives you life gain, card draw, and +1/+1 counters for every creature you control. Please note that its abilities trigger as tokens enter the battlefield. The Wind Crystal is a legendary artifact that lets you cast your white spells for less mana and doubles any life you would gain, and its activated ability gives your creatures Flying and Lifelink until the end of the turn.Cards We RemovedFor new cards to come in, something has to go.Card DrawThis deck doesn't play that high of a mana curve, so you could cast your entire hand in one turn and have nothing left for the next. The original version plays the following card draw:Cards We AddedConsidering the many spells in MTG that interact with tokens, we can improve this section considerably!Well of Lost Dreams is a card draw option that interacts directly with your commander. Other cards that also interact with life gain are The Gaffer and Haliya, Guided by Light. However, this is still a token deck. So it plays spells that interact with tokens, such as Audience with Trostani, Bennie Bracks, Zoologist, and Staff of the Storyteller.Cards We RemovedLife GainTrostani is one of those fun creatures that interacts with tokens and life gain. This deck plays the following cards:Cards We AddedThis is the kind of deck that plays every Warden available, so Essence Warden and Prosperous Innkeeper were natural additions.Bringing all the cuteness from Bloomburrow to the battlefield, For the Common Good copies a target token, protects your board, and also adds a few points to your life total.Cards We RemovedCreating Mana and RampCards We AddedTigereye Cameo is an "extra" card included in this Secret Lair and should not be overlooked.Cards We RemovedTokensTrostani does not create tokens on her own. To do that, we have:Cards We AddedYour main way to gain life with this deck is when tokens enter the battlefield, which interacts with your commander. Let's see how many we can make each turn!Scute Swarm creates tokens and deserves a spot even in decks that are not built around Landfall.Mondrak, Glory Dominus and Exalted Sunborn are better when tokens enter the battlefield quickly, as they multiply how many you create at once.Besides creating pretty tough, powerful bodies, Ezuri's Predation also clears out enemy creatures while filling your battlefield. One of my favorite Selesnya cards, Queen Allenal of Ruadach, has power and toughness equal to the number of creatures you control and passively creates 1/1 Soldiers as you build your board with tokens.Cards We RemovedFinal ListIf you follow these suggestions, your final list should be:Alternative ListIf you do not want to change too much or invest a lot of money in upgrades right now, no problem: here is a budget version to try. Here, we added cards such as Elspeth Tirel, Phyrexian Rebirth, Rampant Growth, Druid's Deliverance, Aura Mutation, and even an alternate win condition: Felidar Sovereign. These are small changes, but they definitely improve this list and preserve its main game plan: win with a small army of tokens, or simply get over 40 life and frustrate your opponents.Final ThoughtsCommanders with simple effects are excellent for beginners, and Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, the original Miku, is one of them. While the original list includes cards that attract a lot of negative attention, such as Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger and Finale of Devastation, it is still a very interesting option for anyone looking to get started in the format. If you are a Vocaloid fan who became interested in Magic: the Gathering because of Miku, leave a comment down below and tell us what you think of the game.Thank you for reading, and see you next time!
