Een rood controle- of midrange-deck zou baat hebben bij het opnemen van Mizzium Mortars in zijn opstelling, omdat het een veelzijdige verwijderingsoptie biedt voor het omgaan met bedreigingen op het bord. Voor decks die op zoek zijn naar efficiëntere verwijderingsopties kunnen kaarten als Anger of the Gods of Sweltering Suns echter betere keuzes zijn vanwege hun lagere manakosten en extra nut. Over het geheel genomen zou Mizzium Mortars spel kunnen zien in bepaalde metagames waar het overbelastingsvermogen bijzonder waardevol is, maar het is misschien niet een hoofdbestanddeel van elk rood kaartspel.
