About Wanderer's Strike

This card, Wanderer's Strike, would be beneficial in a control or midrange deck that focuses on removing key threats from the opponent's board while also increasing the number of counters on your own permanents. However, in a competitive setting, there are more efficient removal spells available such as Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile, which offer immediate removal without the need for proliferate. While Wanderer's Strike has potential in certain strategies, it may not see widespread play due to its higher mana cost and the availability of more versatile removal options in the current Magic: The Gathering meta.

If a permanent has +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters on it, they’re removed in pairs as a state-based action so that the permanent has only one of those kinds of counters on it.

You don’t have to choose every permanent or player that has a counter, only the ones you want to add another counter to. Since “any number” includes zero, you don’t have to choose any permanents at all, and you don’t have to choose any players at all.

If a spell or ability puts counters on a player or permanent and then instructs you to proliferate, choosing that player or permanent will give that player or permanent another of those counters.

Some spells that proliferate may require targets. If each target chosen is an illegal target as that spell tries to resolve, it doesn’t resolve. You won’t proliferate.

The War of the Spark set doesn’t include any ways for players to have counters, but some cards in other sets say that a player “gets” a counter of a certain kind. Notably, emblems aren’t counters.
