Since Premodern's arrival on Magic Online, several decks have gone through a process of collective building with broader player adoption, both from MTGO grinders and the format's growing community. Consequently, some archetypes have undergone substantial changes during this period, and Psychatog was one of them. This deck is a "combo-control" strategy aimed at holding off the game long enough until the hand and graveyard serve as fuel for a Psychatog capable of finishing the match in one or two attacks. Although the core of cards remains the same, Premodern's Metagame seems to have pushed players to focus a bit more on the combo line and a bit less on being Control, with a substantial portion of answers for fair matches kept in the Sideboard, while the maindeck is a mix of cheap or free disruption, combined with some board interaction and various cantrips to find Psychatog and push for an earlier win.The DecklistMaindeckThe win condition. Psychatog turns every card we have played into fuel to increase its power. Since our plan involves holding off the match for a few turns while setting up, it is common to have ten or more cards in the graveyard when we cast it.The combination of Gush with Foil offers the closest thing Premodern has to Force of Will while also fueling Psychatog. Gush, for example, guarantees six power for it for free. For fairer matches, or when we do not want card disadvantage, Counterspell is the format's best stack interaction.Opt and Portent make up our cantrips. Portent doubles as top‑of‑library control for any player, letting us delay the opponent by a few turns or have perfect information before casting Duress.Accumulated Knowledge is our other card advantage source and guarantees extra draws for each copy in the graveyard. If the game goes long, it is our best late‑game card, especially in Games 2 and 3 if we have Zombie Infestation. For board control, Sickening Dreams clears the battlefield while fueling the graveyard. For spot interaction, Smother handles small threats and helps clear the way for Diabolic Edict to answer the bombs. The flex slots. Both can be swapped for other pieces in the Sideboard. Annul answers Phyrexian Dreadnought, Cursed Scroll, Survival of the Fittest, and other problems for one mana, and Chain of Vapor bounces a permanent we let resolve, or serves as protection for Psychatog against spot removal.SideboardThe alternative win condition. Zombie Infestation turns our card advantage sources into 2/2 tokens, enabling go‑wide lines in the late game.Against Red Aggro or Goblins, Hydroblast interacts with the battlefield and stack, helping us stay alive for more turns. Goblins also suffers against Engineered Plague, a common side‑in against most archetypes with many cards sharing a creature type, which also includes Elves and White Weenie.Ivory Tower takes advantage of Gush to provide extra life, mainly against Burn/Sligh.The extra copies of Annul broaden the range of answers against Enchantress, Stiflenought, and Landstill. Chain of Vapor also comes in some of those matches, or when we want a cheap Bounce on the draw against Aggro.Tormod's Crypt is the best answer to graveyards in the format. Necessary against Reanimator, Replenish, and can work against some Terrageddon variants.Tsabo's Web is the card that could go into the maindeck if we prefer less conditional pieces. Decks like Mono Black Midrange, Goblins, Terrageddon, Landstill, and others tend to run utility lands, and besides replacing itself, the artifact also shuts down their ability to generate mana in the long run.Haunting Echoes can win games against Control or even combo decks. If it resolves after several trades, we can practically exhaust all resources from the opponent's deck, making it difficult or even impossible for them to finish the game.Sideboard GuideStiflenoughtINOUTMono Black MidrangeINOUTSligh / BurnINOUTEnchantressINOUTReplenishINOUTGoblinsINOUTElvesINOUTUW LandstillINOUTTerrageddonINOUTPsychatogINOUTReanimatorINOUTWrapping UpThat's all for today! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment! Thanks for reading!
