Legacy and The FantasticarGreetings, Legacy community!In our last article, we discussed how the Legacy meta changed in the last few weeks after Candelabra of Tawnos was banned and the Marvel Super Heroes set came out. More specifically, how The Fantasticar has affected the format.Well, this Fantastic 4 car has taken the format by assault, and if I were to write a deck tech on each archetype that uses this card, it would be 2027, and I still wouldn't be done.Considering the current state of affairs, I believe it's best to cover the main decks that play this card all together. A few decently sized tournaments, either online or in real life, have taken place in the last few weeks ever since the superhero set came out as well, so thankfully we have a decent sample size to start off.Legacy Review - Decks with FantasticarDoomsday + Fantasticar: Driving Off Into the End of the WorldDoomsday is probably the most destructive list that has started playing The Fantasticar (as I mentioned before, the fact this version has been nicknamed Vroomsday is simply wonderful). These lists didn't need to adapt much to play this car: all they had to do was add Mishra's Bauble to Dark Ritual, Lotus Petal, and the cantrips (Brainstorm/Ponder/Consider).The Fantasticar added more dimensions to this deck, as an opponent that is ready to deal with Thassa's Oracle might not be able to deal with tokens and vice versa. Furthermore, this deck can now attack through a different angle post-side by pseudo-transforming the game plan with Barrowgoyfs, Dauthi Voidwalkers, and Murktide Regents.This archetype has definitely become more efficient. This is easily visible on stats websites, where its win rate has been hovering around an absurd 60%.The list below made it to the finals of a tournament that welcomed 129 players in Spain in the hands of a player called Pedro Pereira.Tendrils of Agony + Fantasticar - A Storm Is ComingThe many Storm decks in the format are the archetypes that come to mind when you think about Legacy combos, and they just got a lot of value because of The Fantasticar.Basically, they didn't have to change at all. They just had to find space for the 4 cars because they already put 4 spells in play very easily. As you need to invest a lot less resources to attack with 4 Construct tokens than to set up a lethal Tendrils of Agony with this deck, you can easily imagine this deck setting up a second attack if the opponent manages to answer the first.The list below made it all the way to the top 4 of a tournament that welcomed 213 players in the hands of a player called Coen Wan Wieringen.Mystic Forge + Fantasticar: Between the Hammer and the AnvilIt's been a while since Mystic Forge started roaming the meta and became a constant presence, oftentimes making it to the top tiers. It did well on Eternal Weekend in 2025 and 2024, but it often went up in smoke as well, usually after some ban that destabilized the deck or its place in the format. Well, here we go again.Once again, this archetype didn't have to add anything besides what they already played to fit and activate The Fantasticar.A player called Jeremy Danckert used the following list to get to the top 16 of the same tournament as the one above.Emry + Fantasticar: Speed AffinityBefore everyone realized that The Fantasticar could see play in practically all and any deck, Affinity already had everything ready to play it. And, look, what a surprise, this card performs really well in it too. With this deck, it's not uncommon to summon your tokens already on turn 1.The deck below made it to the top 8 of the same tournament as above, this time in the hands of a player called Sebastian Lindl.Sewer-veillance Cam + Fantasticar: Big Brother Is WatchingLots of artifacts that cost 0 or 1? A main combo that uses alternative conditions really well? Well, we got another list that can play the new card!Though this Goblin Welder / Sewer-veillance Cam combo list doesn't focus as much on the horde of Flying cars as the decks above, it has also started playing the Fantastic 4 car, as we can see with the list below. It won a tournament that welcomed 41 players.Murtide Regent + Fantasticar: Control This!Who said only combos and aggros can play The Fantasticar? A Dimir version that sits in the middle ground between tempo and control, also wonderfully nicknamed Uber, started popping up in Legacy. The goal is to cycle quickly through your deck and activate the car as fast as possible. Murktide Regent is the plan B. This list made it all the way to the top 8 of a Magic Online showcase with 235 players in the hands of a player called "toselluc".Final WordsWe looked at half a dozen lists, but we haven't covered everything I have seen playing The Fantasticar. In the last few days, though, I have seen less decks with it performing well on online platforms. It could be a sign that the format is finally adapting to it.The problem is that this is also a bad sign: cards that would usually be confined to the sideboard, like Consign to Memory, Deafening Silence, or Thorn of Amethyst, are now popping in main decks. Another thing I have seen is that a few players have decided to play decks without The Fantasticar because they don't want to invest resources in a card that could be banned soon.I still think that we could answer it in a healthier way if it were confined to a few niches, but it is versatile enough to see play in a variety of different decks, like the ones above. My guess is that it won't survive through the next banlist update, but, until then, if you want to play Legacy, you either get fuel or slash your opponent's tires.
